FAQs

The Department for Education have appointed the contractor Galliford Try to design and build new school buildings for Woodside Primary School to replace the existing building that is in poor condition and no longer meets modern standards of teaching.

The new school is to be located on the approximate footprint of the existing school building following its demolition and temporary buildings will be installed on the schools playing field during the construction phase to accommodate the school. All temporary buildings will be removed from the site when the new buildings are completed.

The proposal is to replace all of the existing buildings on the site with a new school and nursery accommodated in three separate single-storey buildings connected by a canopy. The proposals will also include new play areas, outdoor learning and dining areas and landscaping, revised parking arrangements, a multi-use games area and the reinstatement of the school playing field.

The new school building does not propose to increase the number of staff or pupils.

Galliford Try have been appointed to build the new school building. Galliford Try is one the leading contractors in the country and have extensive experience of delivering education projects throughout the UK.

Galliford Try are members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, a voluntary scheme meaning that registered contractors and organisations are active in trying to improve the way they work, by raising their standards in being more considerate to communities, the environment and their own workforce.

Subject to securing planning permission it is hoped that the development will be commenced in the late Spring 2026.

It is anticipated that the new school building, MUGA and landscaping will be completed by September 2027.

The school will have access to 11 parking spaces to comply with Council policy, a slight increase from the 9 currently provided.

All existing trees along Jones Road will be retained. 5 trees within the site are proposed to be removed due to their proximity to the new building.

It is proposed to plant 27 new trees across the site.

All retained trees will be protected during construction unless they are found to be in poor or unsafe condition.

All of the buildings are single storey, Building 3 that will accommodate the school hall and kitchen is proposed to be slightly taller to accommodate the double height internal space.

The consultation will run from the 29th of September to the 13th of October 2025.

We are hoping to submit the planning application at the end of October.
