Project Overview

Existing School Building

The existing school has two main buildings:

A – the main school block

B – a separate modular building used as a nursery.

All the buildings on the site are in poor condition, have exceeded their expected design life and are in urgent need of replacement.

Acknowledging this recommendation, DfE have allocated funding to replace the existing buildings with a new high quality school building

Temporary School Building

To ensure continuous educational provision during the construction of the new school building it is necessary to erect temporary school accommodation.

Temporary modular classroom blocks are proposed to the east of the current school on part of the school playing fields.

The temporary school will be in place for approximately 12 months whilst the new school is being constructed.

The existing Nursery Block & pedestrian access from Jones Road will remain in operation during that time.

The school playing fields will be reinstated once the temporary school has been removed.

Proposed School Building

The proposal is for a new school building which includes 3 separate blocks connected via a covered walkway.

The proposed accommodation is a 1 Form Entry provision, 210 pupil places for ages 5-11 plus a 30 place nursery, which matches the current provision.

The proposed buildings are not materially larger than the buildings that they will replace and generous separation with neighbouring properties is retained.

The proposals improve public frontage and retain the majority of trees on the site including the mature trees along Jones Road.

The existing access is retained and both vehicle and cycle parking numbers are increased.

The proposals have high sustainability ambitions and the new building is expected to achieve Net Zero Carbon in operation.
